Glastron relay Issue engine won't start

I've got a 2008 Glastron with a Volvo Penta motor that's been running smoothly until yesterday, when the engine just wouldn't start.

After taking a look, I discovered that the relay for the ignition was faulty. Unfortunately, the marine shops were out of stock for the exact 12V 40A relay, so I picked up a 12V 35A one from an auto parts store instead. It didn't have the same sealed casing, and when I plugged it in, it sparked and blew the fuse. I had to pull it out quickly before it could overheat.

Has anyone else replaced relays like this on their Glastron? I'd really appreciate any tips on where to find the right part!

The spark's exactly why marine grade relays are sealed for ignition protection. The auto parts store relay probably has a different internal pin layout, which immediately blew the fuse. Can you find a Volvo Penta part number on the casing of your original faulty relay?

Here's a harsh truth, marine systems aren't the place to cut corners with automotive relays. The 5-amp difference and lack of sealing can fry more than just a fuse. Bite the bullet and wait for marine-grade replacements, boats don't forgive electrical shortcuts.
