Kicker for Glastron Skiflite

What do you guys think of late 60s Mercury 6 HP outboard with the hose and tank? because I saw a deal online. The seller says it was fully serviced back in 2020 and hasn't been used since.

I'm wondering if this little guy could work as a kicker for my boat? i have a 1978 Glastron Skiflite 16' Tri-Hull. If my main engine stops, think it'll get me back to shore okay around here? super curious to hear your thoughts before I get this! Thanks!

Those old Merc 6 HPs are tough as long as they're well taken care of. If the seller says it was serviced in 2020, get the records. It should work fine with your Glastron Not the top speed but of course it's better to have a kicker.

Since it hasn't been used since 2020, you might want to check the fuel system and impeller. It should get you back to shore in calm conditions but strong currents or winds might make it struggle. hope you get good deal!

I once found a '67 Evinrude 6 HP at an estate sale,it had the same configuration with the hose and an external tank. It had been sitting for years, but after spending a weekend working on it, it started running like it was brand new. I used it as a backup on my old Lone Star, and it came to the rescue twice when the main motor conked out while I was out on the lake. It wasn't the fastest option, but it always got me back home safely.

That old 6 HP Evinrude is a great backup, it's simple, trustworthy, and surprisingly easy to get running again. You can always depend on it when you need it
